Educational Visits

Hello, I am Mrs Harrison and I have the role of Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) within school.  My role is to help the school fulfil its Health and Safety obligations for off-site school visits, by being involved in the planning and management of all educational visits.

Educational visits offer an invaluable opportunity to enrich young peoples’ learning, raise their self esteem, increase their motivation and appetite for learning and raise levels of achievement in many aspects of their life and education. Visiting new areas and exploring new environments broadens young peoples’ horizons and can deepen awareness of their own and others’ abilities and needs. Educational visits often provide the most enjoyable experiences and enduring memories from school days. Residential experiences, in particular, offer unique opportunities to encounter the practical realities of living together away from home, family and familiar surroundings. They provide a powerful vehicle for developing self-awareness and social skills. Adventure activities provide situations in which young people can gain personal fulfilment whilst developing the skills of co-operation, communication and teamwork. They can boost self-confidence and can open the door to a lifetime’s enjoyment of the outdoors.

September 2023 - July 2024

We have lots of exciting trips planned for this school year.  Year 4 and Year 6 will be going on residential visits and Year 5 will be camping under the stars in the school grounds.  Children in other year groups will be doing visits in relation to their learning in class.

September 2022 - July 2023

Every half term, our 'You've been spotted' children are treated to hot chocolate and a movie at Hickorys in Horbury. To be able to go to Hickorys, the children have to be spotted 'doing the right thing' by staff or other children within school. Well done to all of our winners!

Our Year 1 children were invited to Christ Church in Ossett to experience the Easter Story. The children walked sensibly to church and were very polite to the people in church. Well done Year 1.

In March, Year 3 went to Bagshaw Museum in Batley as part of their History topic about the Egyptians. They took part in workshops and were shown how to handle artefacts, mummify each other and they made their own hieroglyphic bookmark.

In March, Year 5 went to Ripon to visit the Prison and Police Museum and the Courthouse Museum as part of their Crime and Punishment History topic. The children all dressed up for the day and had a great time exploring the museums.

In 2023, Year 4 will be going to Wales and Year 6 will be going to Robinwood on residential visits. Year 5 have a 'Camping under the stars' experience planned within the school grounds for July. More details will be sent out about these visits during the course of the year.  Visits will be planned for other year groups and details will be sent out later in the year.

September 2021 - July 2022

In July, Our Year 5 children had the most amazing CAMPING UNDER THE STARS experience. They put up their own tents, built campfires, roasted marshmallows, sang camp songs, cooked their own food, played team games with a giant kin-ball, ate bugs, made pancakes, purified water, and enjoyed sleeping in their tents.

In June 2022, Year 4 made their way to North Wales for their 2 night residential. They had an amazing time exploring a zoo, a theme park, the RSPB, the beach and even had a ride on an open top bus.

Geography Fieldwork Week - In June 2022, all the children in school took part in Geography fieldwork week. Children walked to different areas of Ossett and did their own fieldwork.

Robinwood - In May, our Year 6 children went to Robinwood on their 2-night residential visit. They had the most amazing time.

Leeds United visit - The winners of our competition finally got their prize, a guided tour of Elland Road stadium. It was a fantastic experience for the children as they got to see many of the places that the general public can't normally get to see.
