  • Invacuation procedure

    Wed 24 Apr 2024

Today at school, we practised our invacuation procedure, which is something we do annually. This procedure is where children practise coming into internal corridors and being as safe as possible inside the school building should there ever be a reason for this to happen. We talked to the children and gave them possible examples such as a dangerous dog on the playground. The other reason we practise this is if there was a local community lockdown advised by the police. We don't explicitly share details with the children as our focus is on making the practise as smooth and stress free as possible.

We are pleased to inform you that the children were amazing as they always are when we do any sort of practise of this nature.

    Thank you.

  • Freya's Garden Volunteer day update

    Mon 08 Apr 2024

Thank you to anyone who had volunteered their time to help out tomorrow. Unfortunately the weather is just not on our side and it is forecasting a lot of rain. Many of the jobs that we had planned would just not be possible to carry out in wet weather such as painting.

We have got a skip coming and Mrs Banks is planning to still clear the some of the area that still needs clearing around the pond - this can be done in the wet weather. If anyone would like to help with this then please feel free to attend.

We are planning to have another volunteer day on Tuesday 23rd April with a view to opening Freya's Garden towards the end of this half term.

    Please email efieldhouse@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk

    Thank you.

  • Ofsted Inspection - thank you!

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

We wanted to send a note of communication to thank you all for your support during our recent OFSTED inspection. Whilst we can not share the outcome of the inspection yet, we want you to join us in thanking your wonderful children for being amazing. The inspector actually said that South Parade children are some of the best children she had ever come across. She said they were kind, caring and full of compliments – one child said have a great day before she even got through the school gates! Thank you also to you for supporting the school in the way you do. We strongly believe in a family-team approach and this is something we feel lucky to have.

Have a great and safe Easter break and we look forward to the summer term when it arrives.

  • Ofsted Inspection 19th & 20th March

    Mon 18 Mar 2024

    Dear parents/carers,

Today we have been notified that our school will be having an Ofsted inspection this week. The HMI inspector will be visiting our school tomorrow and Wednesday.

We look forward to welcoming the inspector to our school. As part of the inspection process, the inspector would like to hear the views of all stakeholders, including parents and pupils.

You will see a tab on the website under 'parents' labelled 'Ofsted March 2024'. This is to make it easy for you to find the letter from the inspector and the links to the surveys.

We will also send the links out by text message.

Thanks as always for your support.

  • Freya's Garden - volunteer day 9th April

    Mon 18 Mar 2024

Freya’s Garden – follow up volunteer day on Tuesday 9th April.

    Request for volunteers please!

Now the weather is warming up, we would like to see the completion of Freya’s Garden.

Next month will mark a year since Freya’s sudden, tragic death. We are keen to open the garden as soon as we can in Freya’s memory.

We had a very productive day in January and made a real start on the project.

Please see the list below for the jobs that we still aim to complete:

    Resources required

    Wheel barrows (to borrow)

    Rakes (to borrow)

Battery drill / hand tools for decking

    Paint

    Decking – already sourced

    Table leg timber

Signage – already made by a parent – thank you!

Wood chip (company in Worksop donating this for free, and other benches and bits if we can find something to pick it up in! Does anyone have a truck / vehicle to collect this please)

    Paint – already sourced

    Wild meadow seed

    To do:

    Pond area / Freya’s Garden

Re-felt the shed (completed by a parent recently – thank you!)

    Replace decking

    Replace fence posts

Paint fence and all surrounding woodwork

    Bark chippings for tent

    Put up new signage

    Add timber to bench legs

    Plant meadow seed

Last time we also had donations of refreshments which were much appreciated so anything like this would be great! Thank you.

Please get in touch with Mrs E Fieldhouse if you are able to help in any way. efieldhouse@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk

  • Egg Day

    Thu 14 Mar 2024

    EGG DAY

We are EGGCITED to let you know that we will be having SOUTH PARADE’S EGG DAY on Friday 22nd March.

Please encourage your child to think about their design for the day and prepare what they will need to bring with them. Your child will need to bring hard-boiled eggs on FRIDAY 22nd MARCH (in secure packaging – egg boxes are perfect), the number of eggs depends on the design, but allowing for breakages an extra egg will be invaluable.

Your child will also need to bring any resources (sequins/feathers/tissue paper/paint etc.) needed to construct the design at the school. Please help your child to think of a suitable name for the design (eggstinct/ eggciting/eggsample are past names).  We will only judge the designs that are made on the day in school. We will attach a PowerPoint (on noticeboard on website) with lots of examples from past entries to give you some inspiration. We look forward to seeing what the children come up with this year!

Nursery and Reception children - please wait to hear from your child's class teacher for their plans for EGG DAY.

The egg designs will be displayed in each classroom and the children will be able to go round and look at other children’s designs.

We will take lots of photographs to share with you all.

    There will be prizes!!

Thank you as always for your support.
