Christmas plans

Hope you and your families are all safe and well.

We thought now would be a good time to update you with our plans for Christmas...

Usually we would be busy practising away ready to perform our Christmas performances for you… however, this year Christmas will look a little different.

Our key priority at South Parade is to keep our children safe in school. There are many bubbles ‘bursting’ across the district as Wakefield, as you will know, is now one of the worst hit places across England with the pandemic. However, we are hopeful that we will start to see an improving picture as lockdown helps to control the virus.

So firstly, our Christmas plans will still include a socially distance visit from Santa with a little treat for all of our children. The children will also get the chance to take part in a small carol concert outdoors in their class bubbles which we will film and send to you. The children will also star in a short video which again will be made available for you to see.

This year, we are asking that you please don’t send in Christmas cards to school as we want to minimise the risk of transmission . Instead we will be making Christmas cards in our bubbles for each other and sending them out once they have been quarantined for 72 hours.

We have also come up with a great plan of morale boosting activities for our children EVERY FRIDAY up until Christmas! I am sure you will agree that the children will really look forward to these activities each week.

See below for the timetable of events. Please note some of the events are non-uniform:

‘Fun Fridays’ at South Parade

To boost morale, keep our spirts high and to get us through lockdown number 2 we are planning to do a really fun activity every Friday until the end of term! See below for our timetable of (Covid friendly) events!

Friday 20th November

Brilliant Bingo Afternoon

Dress code: uniform

All children will take part in a fun bingo afternoon where they will have the chance to play games of bingo to win some fab prizes!

Friday 27th November

Winter Art Attack day

Dress code: uniform

Children will spend the whole afternoon creating decorations for their classroom and decorations for the school grounds and gates (so you can see what they have been up to). Children will also get chance to make a Christmas card which, after a period of isolation, will go out to a friend in their bubble.

Friday 4th December

Winter Warmer day

Dress code: PJs/ onesies/ comfy clothes

We decided we needed to relax a little and today we would like your children to come into school in their PJs or something snuggly! Children will be enjoying an afternoon of Christmas stories, relaxing activities and of course hot chocolate and winter biscuits!

Friday 11th December

South Parade’s Movie Making day

Dress code: uniform unless your child’s class teacher has alerted you of something else!

The children and staff will have a chance to star in our own school Christmas Movie! Today is the day they will practise and film their five-minute bubble slot! Look out for the Christmas movie at the end of term!

Friday 18th December

South Parade at the Movies

Dress code: non-uniform/Christmas jumpers

Our final day of term! Please come in non-uniform – Christmas jumpers strongly encouraged to get us in the festive mood. Children will enjoy a Christmas movie with cinema treats too!

Our children’s safety remains our priority but the wellbeing and mental health of our children is also paramount. We are hoping these exciting events will ensure that the children can have a good balance of learning alongside some well deserved fun too.

Take care and stay safe.
