Progression in Music
EYFS - Children sing songs, make music and experiment with ways of changing them.
KS1 Y1 - Children use their voices to sing songs/speak chants and rhymes.
Y2 - Children use their voices expressively and creatively singing songs/speaking chants and rhymes.
KS2 Y3 - Children begin to play and perform in ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression.
Y4 - Children play and perform in ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression.
Y5 - Children improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the interrelated dimensions of music. (TIMBRE, PITCH, DYNAMICS, TEMPO)
Y6 - Children improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the interrelated dimensions of music. (RHYTHM, TEXTURE, STRUCTURE, MELODY, HARMONY)
