Times Tables

As I mentioned to many of you during Parents Evening appointments, I have set all the children personal times table targets. Usually, we would spend a short amount of time in Year 3 re-capping Year 2 times tables. However, as last year was a little bit different and the children didn’t finish Year 2 as expected, we will be working on the Year 2 times tables at least until Christmas. I would hope that if we really focus on these over this term then lots of children will be ready to move onto the Year 3 times tables from January. This will really help them to prepare for the Year 4 times table assessment set by the government. 10 minutes per day practising their times tables will really help them to pick up speed and can be done in a number of ways including TT Rockstars (an excellent online resource that the children love to use - your child should have taken their login information home last week) and practising orally through chanting out loud or asking questions to each other about their target times tables. Here is a link to a website with some more ideas for practising times tables at home - https://www.whizz.com/blog/fun-ways-to-teach-times-tables/

We have also been watching the BBC Super Movers videos and dancing and singing along – these are great ways to practise and the children love them. Ask your child to show you their moves! https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/times-table-collection/z4vv6v4

I have attached 2 posters – one containing the Year 2 times tables (2,5 and 10s) and one containing the Year 3 times tables (3,4 and 8) although there is no need to worry about the Year 3 times tables until the Year 2 have been achieved. When your child has achieved their Year 2 times tables at the correct pace, they will receive their Bronze Times Table Award in school. When they have achieved their Year 3 times tables at the correct pace, they will achieve their Silver Times Table Award in school.

Thank you for your support.
