Information for parents / carers
PSHRE at South Parade Primary School (updated for 2026 changes)
We aim to ensure that our parents are fully aware of all aspects of our PSHRE curriculum offer. Please read the information below. We welcome your feedback.
At South Parade Primary School we value the importance of our children’s physical, social and health education. We aim to support each child’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC) throughout the teaching of our curriculum. Within the rapidly changing world in which we live, it is vital that these areas are explored in a safe and supportive environment. Personal, Social, Health and Relationships Education (PSHRE) and Citizenship enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our pupils are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. They learn how society is organised and governed and experience the process of democracy in school. We provide opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse society.
You will be aware that as a part of your child’s educational experience at South Parade Primary School, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Relationships (PSHRE) education. This gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
2026 Updates to RHE Curriculum
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education 2026 was first published in 2019, with the government making a commitment to review this every three years. A review of the guidance was announced in May 2023, with a proposed draft framework and an eight-week consultation. The outcomes of the consultation with the government response were published on 15th July 2025, along with the new statutory framework that will come into force in September 2026. The statutory guidance can be found here.
In light of these updates, we are fortunate that the PSHRE scheme that we follow (Twinkl Life) has completely updated their curriculum and lessons which cover all aspects of the changes.
Please see an outline of all units that are covered in our curriculum which are broken down into KS1 (Year 1 and 2), LKS2 (Y3 and 4) and UKS2 (Y5 and 6).
If you have any questions at all about our PSHRE curriculum, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
