           Dear parents/carers,

I hope you are well and everyone is safe during these unusual and uncertain times.

We really miss you all so much at school and we are hoping that we can all get back together as soon as the Government and scientists say that it safe to do so.

In the meantime, we are so proud of the amazing things that you are doing at home with your children and we really hope that you are finding the work that we are providing useful.

We have had a few parents contacting us and worrying about what they are doing and hoping they’re doing enough… I am sure you are doing what is exactly right for your child… I am a mum too and after reading a really insightful article this weekend it made me realise that even though we are all in this ‘storm’ together, we are all ‘riding the waves in our own different boats’. Some of our families welcome the structured work to help out with your day of working from home and keeping your child busy with learning tasks whilst some of our families are struggling to get their child to sit and complete a paragraph of writing or even a sentence.

Some of our families are enjoying their gardens and learning how to plant and grow, some are learning how to recycle and recreate the Titanic out of old boxes.

We are all tackling this in a way that I am certain is right for you. Of course some learning tasks will help move your child forward but it is essential that we recognise that home schooling is different to school at school! Also, don’t underestimate the conversations and reading you are doing with your child – these are all valuable too.

Please use our support as teachers and therefore to help guide you in the best way we can. Teachers are working so hard to make sure that we can support the 30 children we have in our classes so bear with us if we can’t respond to everything straight away or we can’t meet your exact request – we’re trying our very best!

As soon as we know the next steps from school we will let you know.

    Take care and stay safe.

  • Welcome back

    Mon 20 Apr 2020

    Dear parents / carers,

We hope you all had a good Easter break, enjoyed some family time and a well earned break from all your school work on Class Dojo or the Learning Book. This gave our teachers and support staff some time with their families too when they weren't on shift in school. We remained open over the Easter holidays for children of key workers; the children who were in enjoyed their time with a sports coach from Total Sporting Solutions.

Today we welcome two new teachers to our team, Mrs Haley who will be taking over from Mr Lewcock in year 4, and Miss Fabregas who will be covering Mrs Yates as she finishes at the end of this week to start her maternity leave. They have all been communicating effectively in their teams to make sure the transition has been as smooth as possible in these circumstances. Thank you to Mr Lewcock who has done a fantastic job working with C11, we wish him all the best and hope he can come back to visit us when we reopen. We also wish Mrs Yates much happiness as she goes off on maternity leave to spend some precious family time with her new little addition!

Teachers have been busy setting new learning tasks online again for this week. We have made a collective decision to use Class Dojo and the Learning Book on Monday - Thursday from now on, and to make Friday a day where you can complete learning of your choice.

This means that you could base this learning around what you think will be best for you and your child. It could be: learning life skills such as cooking, learning to tie shoelaces or jobs around the house; craft-based or learning through play such as Lego, role-play or art; community based such as letter-writing or volunteering; or consolidation of things your child has struggled with in the tasks set. There are lots of ideas available on the internet that you could choose together. There are many useful links on the Home Learning section of our website.

If anyone would like an exercise book to work in, there will be some available in the school office for collection.

Mrs Argent has been busy organising the Free School Meals vouchers. If anyone is having any problems please do not hesitate to get in touch.

There seems to be a lot of media speculation about when schools will be open. However, we do not know when this will be and we do know that no date has been set as yet. We continue to take advice from the government, in the case of schools - The Department for Education. As soon as we receive any up to date and accurate information, we will let our families know.

In the meantime, please be assured that we are doing everything we can to support your child's education and well-being throughout this period.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch.

    Stay safe everyone.

    Team South Parade.
