  • Strike Action Update

    Wed 22 Feb 2023

    Dear parents/ carers,

As you will probably be aware, next Tuesday 28th February has been identified by the National Education Union (NEU) as the second day of industrial action in their pay and funding campaign.

Members of the NEU are not obliged to let us know in advance of their intentions, but our staff have been co-operative and kind enough to offer this information so that you know what our situation is and that if needed, you can make alternative arrangements for childcare for the day.

The classes so far where the teacher has given advance notice of strike action is:

    Year 2, Class 7

Mrs Iveson will teach the class as normal on Tuesday morning and the children will have their lunch in school.

The teacher who is normally in class 7 on Tuesday afternoon will be taking strike action therefore the class will close at 1:15pm.

Please collect children from the classroom at 1:15pm.

    Year 3, Class 8

This class will be closed to pupils all day.

    Year 3, Class 9

This class will be closed to pupils all day.

If there are any changes or any other teachers decide to strike we will let you know as soon as possible.

Staff appreciate the inconvenience the action will cause and for that send their apologies. We would like to assure our school community that this is not a decision our teachers have taken lightly.

    Thank you.

  • Uniform

    Thu 02 Feb 2023

    UNIFORM

    PE Kit

We made the decision to continue the rule that children wear their PE kit on the days when they have timetabled PE as long as they stick to the rules.

Unfortunately we are finding that a number of children are coming to school in bright coloured hoodies, tracksuits with logos etc.

We are asking that all children strictly wear:

Black or navy shorts /tracksuit bottoms/leggings, a white t-shirt, and a black or navy tracksuit top. No logos please.

    A pair of trainers.

We expect ALL children to wear the correct PE uniform and ask that all parents/carers support us with this please.

    Lost Property

We are going to introduce a new system for lost property.

On a Friday from 3.10pm the cloakroom of Classroom 5 will be open for parents to access the lost property box.

The inside door will be locked so there will be no access to school, only the class 5 cloakroom where lost property will be placed.

We do return items to children when they are labelled with their name - please make sure to do this.

    The Uniform Bank

Our Uniform Bank is now very well stocked. Everything is now catalogued, organised and ready to be accessed. Thank you so much for your kind donations, this is greatly appreciated.

This is a discreet, free service for any family that requires any assistance with uniform items. We want families who need this to access it, that's what it is there for.

To access The Uniform Bank please email uniform@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk

We will then ask you what items you would like, sizes etc. and organise for you to collect or we can send home with your child.

    Thank you.

  • Attendance / lateness

    Thu 02 Feb 2023

There are an increasing number of children arriving to school late.

Late arrival can cause children to feel anxious or upset.

We take the view there are no late children, only late parents.

Pupils should arrive and be collected from school on time:

    • The school gates are open early to allow pupils/parents to wait on the playground before the start of the school day
    • Classroom doors open at 8.50am. We allow a ten minute period of time before registration at 9.00am. We appreciate that this ten minutes is required so that parents/childminders with more than one child have time to go to multiple classrooms.
    • Registration is at 9.00am for all children from Reception to Year 6

From next week we will be introducing a new sign in system. This will involve using the screen in the main entrance.

You will be asked to input the following information:

    • Childs class
    • Childs name
    • Parent / Carer option (the person who is signing them in)
    • Dinner choice (this will be on a printout, your child will then need to take the relevant colour dinner band)
    • Reason for lateness
