  • Safe parking

    Wed 13 Sep 2023

We have had several reports from parents and local residents about parking issues outside school grounds at drop off and pick up times.

Please can we ask that you always consider the safety of our children and families when parking. If you can't find a parking space near school, please park safely further away and walk.

We will be monitoring school streets again and working with our local PCSO around parking issues.

    Thank you for your co-operation.

  • Attendance Matters

    Wed 13 Sep 2023

    Attendance Matters

This year we want to join Wakefield District with the aim of children coming to school 100% of the time. School attendance is vital to the life chances of children and young people and research suggests that there is a strong link between high attendance and high academic success.

Being in school improves health, wellbeing and socialisation throughout the life course. Children can attend school with mild illnesses and we can closely monitor them and send them home should they start to feel worse.

When children miss school they can often feel like their friends have reformed new friendship groups or they sometimes feel confused as their learning has moved on. A prolonged period of absence is likely to heighten a child’s anxiety about attending in the future, rather than reduce it.

We are here to support you and your family to help ensure that they come to school even when there are challenges. We have many external services that support us so please come and speak to Mrs Hedges (Peace) who leads on attendance, Mrs Fieldhouse or Mrs Banks if you need any type of support. Mrs Fowles can also support further with any mental health barriers when it comes to school attendance.

Please see the newly launched leaflet from Wakefield District which we will be working hard to ensure we follow this approach.

Also, please see the link to our school attendance page on our website which includes our attendance policy.

    Thank you for your co-operation.

  • School Streets Reminder

    Mon 11 Sep 2023

Just a polite reminder about our 'School Streets' scheme. This is where we have in place a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) with Wakefield Council. This is to restrict traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times on Westwood Road/Queens Walk.

Westwood Road and Queens Walk are closed to all traffic (with exception of permit holders and emergency vehicles) from 8.35am-9.05am and 3.05-3.35 daily.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping everyone to stay safe.

  • Welcome Back!

    Mon 04 Sep 2023

    Welcome Back!

We look forward to welcoming our pupils back to school tomorrow ready to start a new term.

    School Uniform

We expect all pupils to wear correct uniform in line with our school policy.

    • Black / grey trousers, skirt (to the knee), pinafore dress, culottes or shorts
    • White polo shirt with or without logo
    • Royal blue sweatshirt, v necked jumper or cardigan with or without logo
    • Blue checked summer dress
    • Black school shoes (not trainers)

    PE Kit

We will continue the rule that children wear their PE kit on the days when they have timetabled PE as long as they stick to the rules.

We are asking that all children strictly wear:

Black or navy shorts /tracksuit bottoms/leggings, a white t-shirt, and a black or navy tracksuit top. No logos please.

    A pair of trainers.

We expect ALL children to wear the correct PE uniform and ask that all parents/carers support us with this please.

    Jewellery

We don’t allow children to wear jewellery in school, apart from a watch and one pair of small stud earrings. We do not permit smart watches.

    Mobile phones

Children in year 5 and 6 are permitted to bring a mobile phone for the purpose of communication with parents/carers before and after school. These must be turned off on entry to the school grounds and handed to the class teacher on arrival to the classroom. School do not accept any responsibility for these devices.

    Attendance

Pupils should arrive and be collected from school on time:

    • registration is at 9am for all children from Reception to Year 6.  Pupils can go straight to their classroom from 8.50am until 9am;
    • late arrival can cause children to feel anxious or upset - this time of the school day is when a lot of key learning takes place
    • if a child is collected late, after 3.20pm, they will go to the main entrance to the office to sign in electronically
    • we contact parents of pupils who have patterns of lateness to talk about how to arrive and/or be collected on time

Please see more information on attendance on the tab on the school website.

    School Milk

Unfortunately our school milk supplier has gone into administration. We are in the process of finding a new contract with a new supplier (Cool Milk UK). This may delay milk for our pupils but we will get this up and running as soon as possible.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
