  • Ofsted Inspection - thank you!

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

We wanted to send a note of communication to thank you all for your support during our recent OFSTED inspection. Whilst we can not share the outcome of the inspection yet, we want you to join us in thanking your wonderful children for being amazing. The inspector actually said that South Parade children are some of the best children she had ever come across. She said they were kind, caring and full of compliments – one child said have a great day before she even got through the school gates! Thank you also to you for supporting the school in the way you do. We strongly believe in a family-team approach and this is something we feel lucky to have.

Have a great and safe Easter break and we look forward to the summer term when it arrives.

  • Ofsted Inspection 19th & 20th March

    Mon 18 Mar 2024

    Dear parents/carers,

Today we have been notified that our school will be having an Ofsted inspection this week. The HMI inspector will be visiting our school tomorrow and Wednesday.

We look forward to welcoming the inspector to our school. As part of the inspection process, the inspector would like to hear the views of all stakeholders, including parents and pupils.

You will see a tab on the website under 'parents' labelled 'Ofsted March 2024'. This is to make it easy for you to find the letter from the inspector and the links to the surveys.

We will also send the links out by text message.

Thanks as always for your support.

  • Egg Day

    Thu 14 Mar 2024

    EGG DAY

We are EGGCITED to let you know that we will be having SOUTH PARADE’S EGG DAY on Friday 22nd March.

Please encourage your child to think about their design for the day and prepare what they will need to bring with them. Your child will need to bring hard-boiled eggs on FRIDAY 22nd MARCH (in secure packaging – egg boxes are perfect), the number of eggs depends on the design, but allowing for breakages an extra egg will be invaluable.

Your child will also need to bring any resources (sequins/feathers/tissue paper/paint etc.) needed to construct the design at the school. Please help your child to think of a suitable name for the design (eggstinct/ eggciting/eggsample are past names).  We will only judge the designs that are made on the day in school. We will attach a PowerPoint (on noticeboard on website) with lots of examples from past entries to give you some inspiration. We look forward to seeing what the children come up with this year!

Nursery and Reception children - please wait to hear from your child's class teacher for their plans for EGG DAY.

The egg designs will be displayed in each classroom and the children will be able to go round and look at other children’s designs.

We will take lots of photographs to share with you all.

    There will be prizes!!

Thank you as always for your support.

  • Red Nose Day 15th March

    Fri 08 Mar 2024

To support Comic Relief this year we are inviting pupils to wear non-uniform on Friday (Red Nose Day) for a suggested donation of £1 which will go to the charity.

  • Fire Alarm

    Fri 01 Mar 2024

Today we had a fire alarm which was not expected.

Our fire procedures were good and robust and all children were out of school quickly and in the correct place. The fire alarm went off during a wet playtime (lunch break). Our procedure, in line with fire safety guidance, is to evacuate the building via the nearest door  - which were the classroom doors - as quickly and safely as possible being led by our school fire marshals. Firstly, your children were fantastic and we were outside in a rapid time frame and in correct lines/areas. However, I wanted to communicate with you as our children were outside for a period of time (around 20-25 minutes) and some without jumpers. We were not allowed into the building until the fire brigade had arrived and checked. Luckily, it was a false alarm. Our pupils were calm and we kept them warm by doing keep fit exercises – luckily one of our PE coaches led the school with this! Our younger pupils were escorted to our outdoor tent for further shelter. Obviously, a few children were a little worried as the fire alarm arrived but we assured children that it was a false alarm but not a planned practice. Please feel free to talk to your children about this and reassure them that they were great. We hope you understand that the period outdoors was unavoidable and we ensured they had a calming end to the day.

    Thank you

    Mrs Hedges

  • Wakefield Hospice fundraising opportunity

    Fri 01 Mar 2024

A message to our families from Wakefield Hospice:

A chance to win £1000 for your school…

Thanks to the generous support of our event sponsors, The Card Factory Foundation, we are giving one lucky school the chance to win £1,000 worth of sports equipment to promote fitness, wellbeing and future development!

    How do we get involved?

On Sunday 24th March 2024, following the Wakefield 10k Race, our family friendly 1k fun-run takes place at 10:30am starting and finishing in Thornes Park. We are asking local schools to support the event by promoting participation to their pupils – with any school whose pupils raise £250+ in sponsorship added into the draw to win £1,000!

Here is the link to sign up = https://racebest.com/organisers/k4eqg/entries

    How to raise funds?
The total raised can be done by a collective of children at the school, not just one person but if they do, well done them! We suggest setting up a Just Giving page or using paper sponsor forms which I have attached. (Please see separate post for the sponsor form).

We will also have a £100 voucher up for grabs for one lucky child who enters the Fun Run to win on the day too!

See the attached poster for more information and how to sign up!

If you would like more information on how to get involved in this year’s Fun-Run, please email me at Alexander.cunniff@wakefieldhospice.co.uk.

Once again thank you for your kind support and we look forward to hopefully seeing your school represented at our Fun-Run this March!

    Best wishes

    Alex Cunniff
