  • Increasing data allowances on mobile devices to support disadvantaged children

    Thu 07 Jan 2021

    NEW GOVERNMENT OFFER:

Increasing data allowances on mobile devices to support disadvantaged children

This scheme temporarily increases data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks. This is so that children and young people can access remote education if their face-to-face education is disrupted.

    Who can get help

Schools, trusts and local authorities can request mobile data increases for children and young people who:

    • do not have fixed broadband at home
    • cannot afford additional data for their devices
    • are experiencing disruption to their face-to-face education

Children with access to a mobile phone on one of the following networks might be able to benefit:

    • Three
    • Smarty
    • Virgin Mobile
    • EE
    • Tesco Mobile
    • Sky Mobile

Other providers may join the scheme at a later stage.

    When help is available

Schools, trusts and local authorities can request mobile data increases when schools report a closure or have pupils self-isolating.

They can also make requests for children who cannot attend school face-to-face because:

    • they’re clinically extremely vulnerable
    • restrictions prevent them from going to school

How to request a mobile data increase

For each request, we need to know:

    • the name of the account holder
    • the number of the mobile device
    • the mobile network of that device (for example Three)

If you would like to make a request, please contact admin@southparade.wakefield.southparade.wakefield.sch.uk stating the information requested.

We will send this information on a request form and once the network provider has processed a data increase, they’ll send a text message to the account holder.

  • Urgent re latest government announcement

    Mon 04 Jan 2021

You will possibly have heard the latest information from the Government that schools will be closed for the majority of pupils from tomorrow. We received this information at 8 o’clock this evening when most of our families will have heard this. We had no notice and heard this information at the same time as you.

Following our letter earlier today, we anticipated moving to remote learning soon - however this sudden end of face to face schooling has come much quicker than we all expected.

We will once again ensure that your children receive remote learning where we hope you and your child feel fully supported. This will be communicated via Class Dojo.

Tomorrow we will start this process. Please bear with us tomorrow whilst we replan our lessons and also work out how we will safely accommodate critical worker children, children in care, vulnerable children and our pupils who are on a EHC plan.

Tomorrow, so that we have time to plan for this, we are pleading with you to only send your child/ren to school if they fall into one of the groups on the list we sent out today AND there is absolutely no alternate childcare arrangements in the home under the new lockdown rules (for tomorrow). Places for critical workers/ vulnerable pupils will be allocated when we have time tomorrow to filter through the emails sent to our dedicated email address and when we have time to organise staffing/ classrooms to accommodate your children from Wednesday onwards.

We will be sending further information out tomorrow via Class Dojo /class web pages.

Once again we are so sad to say goodbye for a short while to our amazing children.

If you need any immediate support with family help/mental health guidance then please get in touch with Mrs Banks or Mrs Fowles tomorrow.

Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
