  • Dress to Express Day

    Thu 01 Feb 2024

Next week is our annual ‘Children’s mental health week’. The children will be doing activities in their classes and we will have a whole school assembly on THURSDAY. This is our ‘DRESS TO EXPRESS’ day where children should dress in a way that expresses who they are. This could be through favourite colours, hairstyles, favourite sports kits, fancy dress, party clothes… whatever your child wants to wear as an expression of themselves. If you are willing and able a donation of £1:00 would be fabulous as this will be donated to PLACE2Be, the Children’s Mental Health charity. Thank you!

  • Update - Freya's Garden volunteer day

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

We would like to say a big thank you to all the people who have come forward to help out in whatever capacity in the creation of Freya's Garden. If you can help out just by letting us borrow some equipment, that would be great. You will find a list at the bottom of this page.

Our volunteer day is on Thursday this week, thank you to those who have been in contact offering to help out on the day.

We have had a pre-meeting with Darren from Froglife today - we have talked about the forecasted weather conditions on Thursday and although it is predicted to be dry, it is going to be very cold / freezing!

We are still determined to go ahead but some of the things we had planned we are going to have to postpone to another day. This includes the painting of the fence and the benches - due to the very low temperatures, the likelihood is that if we paint, it will just flake off (advice taken on this!).

If you are coming to help out, please make sure you email Mrs Fieldhouse if you haven't done so already, on efieldhouse@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk or contact the school office so that we have an idea of numbers.

The intention is for us all to meet in Classroom 5 just after school drop off at 9am ish to talk through everything with Darren.

Please report to the main entrance to sign in where you will be given a visitors lanyard and shown straight to the classroom.

Please feel free to stay all day, however due to the low temperatures we are expecting it to be more like half a day and to plan another day next month.

If you have any of the following equipment you would like to donate or lend us please get in touch with Mrs Fieldhouse ASAP as we will be buying everything in advance.

    Spades

    Rakes

    Wire brushes

    Waders

    Buckets

    Sandpaper

    Gardening gloves

Bulbs to plant (appropriate for this time of year)

    Compost

    Washing up liquid

Thank you for your support. This is much appreciated by us and by Freya's family.

  • Freya's Garden volunteer day

    Tue 09 Jan 2024

Freya's Garden – volunteer day Thursday 18th January

Following the devastating, untimely and tragic death of our lovely Freya in April, we decided as a school (and with full cooperation from Freya’s family) to honour Freya’s memory by creating a special space that all our pupils will have access to.

Freya was passionate about nature, wildlife and gardening. Therefore we feel that it is wholly appropriate to dedicate our already wonderful pond area, to make it even better, and for everyone to use.

The space will be called ‘Freya’s Garden’.

Thanks to your kind and generous donations (we raised £1,500) we are now able to move forward with the project. We have also had a kind donation from a parent offering to donate signage for the area. We will be carrying out this project in conjunction with Froglife. Darren from the charity has been to school for a follow up visit and is in close contact with us. We have made a start on the area thanks to a volunteer over the Christmas holiday so it really is now work in progress. We are asking for volunteers to come and support Darren on 18th January.

    The project will include:

    • Cleaning out the pond and planting of some ‘newt friendly’ aquatics.
    • Creation of a hibernaculum in the woodland area
    • Construction and installation of bat and bird boxes (with the involvement of our children)
    • Creation of a wildflower area
    • Creation of an open compost heap for ground maintenance arisings. This provides great habitat and foraging opportunities for a whole range of wildlife.
    • Seating areas to create an outdoor classroom environment

We are asking for a team of volunteers please on 18th January.

We need a team of approximately 12 adults.

This will include clearing the pond and the immediate surrounding area so we need people willing to get stuck in, including some who are willing to get into the pond with chest waders on.

As well as people power , we also need the following please:

    • Chest waders
    • Spades and shovels
    • Loppers
    • Secateurs
    • Wire brush
    • Jet washer

We would love to gather some community spirit for our project to happen.
Anything you can offer would be gratefully received – baking for the workers, people willing do tea and coffee runs, any other suggestions welcome.

Dry weather would also be a bonus!

Please email me on efieldhouse@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk if you can offer any support in any way.

Thank you to those who have already been in contact.

    Thank you.

  • Volunteers for Uniform Bank

    Tue 09 Jan 2024

Happy new year everyone. We hope you had a restful break.

As you are aware, we have a uniform bank in school which more and more families are accessing. This is fantastic and exactly what we aimed for when we set it up. Children grow out of clothes so quickly so the uniform we have available is in good condition - in some cases brand new. Please feel free to donate any uniform that your children have grown out of.

Due to constant 'rummaging' to find sizes etc, it has become a little bit of a jumble. We would love a volunteer or a couple of volunteers who would like to come in and spend some time in our spare classroom sorting and organising the uniform into sizes.

Please contact Mrs Fieldhouse if you are interested either by email on: efieldhouse@southparade.wakefield.sch.uk or through the school office.

    Many thanks.

  • Merry Christmas!

    Sat 23 Dec 2023

Our children have worked so hard this term and we wish them all a well deserved break. We also had lots of fun on the lead up to Christmas with lots of exciting events. We had our fantastic performances, hot chocolate and story afternoon, craft events, choir singing, shopping evening and the pantomime. We had a very happy little boy in reception yesterday who won Ernie the Elf in the SP Xtra raffle draw!
Thank you as always for your ongoing support.
We would like to wish all our families a very merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year.
